Tips to Getting on the Road on the Sunshine Coast

If you are traveling to Australia than you will probably be flying into Brisbane or another local airport. Many think that when they come to this region they should rely on public transportation to get around and see the sites. Since many people are not well versed at international travel, they worry about how to go about renting a vehicle in a foreign country and they also worry about the liability in doing so.

The surrounding areas of Brisbane, such as the Sunshine Coast region have a lot to offer travelers. But seeing these surrounding regions definitely require a car hire to get from place to place on your own schedule. When renting a vehicle in the Queensland there are just a few simple things that you need to know prior to travel.

You won't need an international driving permit if you have an English written driver's license; Australia doesn't require any additional documentation if you have a valid license printed in English. But if there's any other language on your license you'll need to acquire an IDP from your home nation before you leave home. Then you'll need to have both the IDP and your driver license on your person at all times while in the Queensland.

The next issue is insurance, you should verify it as you would for any trip, with your car insurance company and your credit card company. Once that's all correct then you will get a international insurance card through your travel agent or the international car rental company you're going to use, they call them Green Cards in Australia.

The final piece of advice is to make sure you review all the regulations around driving in Australia, as you don't want to inadvertently do something that is illegal. Look online for all the information you'll need to drive safely around on the Sunshine Coast area.

To locate facts about Sunshine Coast travel visit sunshinecoastinformation.com to locate attractions and accommodations in this wonderful area. You can also locate a Mooloolaba accommodation at sunshinecoastinformation.com. There are representatives available if you have any questions or need help.

A Day at the Races in the Heart of Hong Kong

Hong Kong has often been compared to Singapore for its booming economy, shopaholic population and its technology loving multitudes. An Asian city that is bereft of the organized chaos that is Bangkok or the cultural overdose of South Asian giant India, Hong Kong is known for its west-oriented values, neatly manicured streets and MRTs.

Hong Kong to many in the region at least is at first a food lover's paradise owing to its culturally diverse and adventurous populace. Home to such well-known attractions as Victoria Peak, Big Buddha and Hong Kong Disneyland, this vibrant city is also where the shopping district Mongkok, Lamma Island and the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery is located.

But there's more to Hong Kong than its' towering sky scrapers, abundant food courts and trendy nightclubs. Even a decade after it was handed over by the British to mainland China, it's image is synonymous with a modern day metropolis that is fast paced with an ever-growing appetite for the finer things in life. And it seems though the British rule over this island nation seems to have receded in to the backdrop, its cultural influence has left an indelible mark on the country's social landscape. This is why Hong Kong is renowned as a horse racing hotspot in Asia.

As an equestrian sport that has captivated the world for centuries, horse racing finds its origins in the Chariot races of Ancient Rome. A permanent fixture in Norse mythology, horse racing was the sport of royalty, who sped across palace grounds on thoroughbreds to the cheers of Noble men. Coupled with gambling from its inception, horse racing today remains a sport of the elite although unlike centuries past, the average traveller can also have a stake in the winning steed of his choice. Famed for its adrenaline rushing, nail biting atmosphere, horse racing was first conducted in here during British winters. But looking at the Hong Kong population's insatiable appetite for the sport it is difficult to trace its roots in the country's colonial past as horse racing is ardently followed by locals of all stature.

The racing calendar culminates in the Hong Kong International Races which consist of five events that attract horse racing enthusiasts from around the world. Home to two top-notch race courses, Happy Valley and Sha Tin Racecourse, the betting process in the venues are generally handled in a pari-mutuel system.

Described as one of the region's premier race courses Sha Tin Racecourse can host up to 83,000 people at a time and also has the longest Diamond Vision screen at 70.4 metres width and a height of 8 metres. Built in 1978, the thrilling atmosphere of a day at the races is best experienced here while the Happy Valley Racecourse has offered night racing from 1973 onwards. As the nation's first race course, Happy Valley is now home to a state of the art track and live horse races broadcast.

Come September and all of Hong Kong is buzzing with horse racing fever as the annual horse racing tour is about to commence. Running through till July these are marked months on racing lover's calendars as the spectacle of this refined sport captivates locals and tourists alike. For those who are interested in learning of the history of this much loved sport, visit the Hong Kong Racing Museum where the past is revisited with unmatched fervour.

Pleasantly situated, Hotel Jen is an excellent Hong Kong Island hotel located close to the race tracks. Charming and comfortable this cosy rest is a premier tourist hotel in Hong Kong.

Vacation Tips - Pregnancy and Travel

If you are pregnant, chances are that you have a lot to worry about (and a lot to be excited about too!). To put your mind at ease, here are some helpful tips that can help you travel even when you are expecting.

Your Comfort

To make your trip the most enjoyable, pack comfy clothes and shoes that will give you the support you need. Carry snacks that you can enjoy throughout the day and remember to take frequent breaks and restroom stops.

Is Travel During Pregnancy Safe?

As long as you and your doctor have not identified any complications with your pregnancy, it is generally safe to travel during each trimester. However, many women choose to travel during their second trimester because they experience less morning sickness and fatigue at this time.

Car Travel

For car travel, make sure that you use a seatbelt that has both a lap belt and shoulder belt. This is the best way to protect both yourself and your baby. Resist the urge to turn off your airbags! Though some people will try to tell you differently, the safety provided by airbags far outweighs any risks associated with these devices. If you can, try to limit the amount of time that you spend in the car. More than five or six hours in the car at a time could leave you and your baby feeling uncomfortable. If you have to travel for an extended distance, make sure that you make frequent stops to get up, stretch your legs, and get your blood moving.

Air Travel

Air travel is considered safe for pregnant women; however, most airlines will only allow you to travel up until your eighth month of pregnancy. Exceptions can be made if you get written permission from your doctor. You may want to request an aisle seat so it is easier to get up and down and get to the bathroom if necessary.

Water Travel

Water travel is also considered safe to do while you are pregnant, though if you have the tendency to get sea sick, that feeling may be greatly exaggerated. If you are boarding a cruise ship, make sure that there is a doctor on board that can help you in case of any emergencies. Before you take any type of medication for seasickness, check with your doctor to ensure that it is safe for pregnancy.

Foreign Travel

If you are planning a trip to a foreign country, it is important to discuss your plans with your doctor. Foreign travel is generally safe; however, you could be exposed to foreign bacteria that could upset your health. To further ensure your health and safety when you travel abroad, avoid raw foods and make sure that all meats have been completely cooked. Always drink canned beverages and plenty of bottled water. Never eat anything that makes you uneasy!

Keep Your Luggage Safe With Personalized Luggage Tags

If you are planning to make a long trip, either by air, sea or rail, the only form of identification for your baggage is with Personalized Luggage Tags. In order to make the maximum and have a successful business or leisure trip, it is vital that you have your baggage when you reach your destination. This will only be possible with the help of luggage tags.

The present day travel cases and luggage sets are very much similar to each other in size, style and colour. A person who travels frequently will agree to this statement. Due to this, baggage can easily be taken away by mistake as they come off the luggage carousel. It is a common occurrence due to these similarities. The simple solution to a very common problem is the use of Personalized Luggage Tags.

Of course you will always have the option of moving away from the standard bags and purchase one with a difference; there are many with unique, also colourful and attractive designs. This is one way of not having your luggage confused with another. But not everyone will like to have a case of bright colours and vibrant designs.

Considering the large volume of travellers today, these tags have become a great asset and supporting device in keeping a good track of their belongings. There is a wide choice of designs to select from, and one will be surprised to see the great number of styles, colours and designs that are found in shopping stores as well as online stores. It might be wise to choose unique designs with bold colours as your Personalized Luggage Tags, as it will help your luggage to stand out from the rest and identifying will be much faster.

Past experiences of lost or misdirected luggage has now proved the value of luggage tags. Great emphasis is now given to this little piece of information, and travellers totally depend on their tags to ensure safe arrival of their baggage.

Here are a few points on the importance and uses of custom made luggage tags:

• In order to have uniformity, it is best you have similar tags especially in design. Ideal when you are travelling with your family or in a group.
• In the event of lost luggage or baggage being misdirected, luggage tags will help authorities to contact the traveller immediately.
• A mode of proving that the luggage belongs to you.
• Custom made tags are stronger, bigger, durable and visible when compared to the standard tags which tend to get damaged soon.
• They are perfect as a promotional product.
• Most luggage tags have a privacy flap to keep away your personal information from others.

Personalized Luggage Tags is an "all-important" piece of information. Most often than not, travellers put off filling in their tags until the last minute of their journey. It will good to take your time and complete these tags by filling in all your details without being rushed, as it is vital for long distance traveling.

Travel Agency Worth - Continued #4 of 4 (Financial Management Strength)

What is the strength of your agency's financial management? This is one of the four keys to determining the value of your travel agency - operations/resource management, market position/agency image, financial management and business history. I am addressing each issue in separate articles.*

Let's consider financial management strength today.

Q: Do you operate under the accrual or cash method of accounting?

A: If you're on a cash system, ask your CPA to convert your books to accrual. If you prefer staying with cash accounting, be certain that your income is reflected properly so that a buyer will know what he is buying.

Q: What is your net worth?

A: This is probably one of the most important valuation criterion in establishing price.

Q: Do you receive a monthly balance sheet and P&L?

A: If you don't, it will be difficult for a buyer to assess trends, growth and your overall financial management.

Q: Have you kept track of key financial ratios in order to get an early warning of changes in your business, such as:

• Sales per employee and/or customer and/or vendor?
• Commissions as a percentage of sales?
• Percentage of override commissions by vendor?
• Percentage of return sales by customer or account?
• Percentage pre-tax profit of commission revenues or sales?

A: Very few agencies have a formal program that reviews the "quality" of their customers. I have seen a tendency to serve anyone just to get the business in the door. If you look at some of those ratios above, you might find out that the XYZ Corporation's account that you finally landed is costing you more than you're making on it. A buyer will be more impressed with strategic thinking along these lines than with a single number of sales.

Q: How are you doing with your collections?

• Are your accounts receivable properly aged?
• What is your reserve for bad debt and actual write-offs for the past five years?
• What is your collection mix of credit cards vs. invoice?
• What do you do with un-collectables?
• What credit analysis procedures do you have when taking on a new account?

A: Again, these items are important and reflect on your abilities as a financial manager. Bear in mind that the buyer of your agency may not necessarily have the same business acumen you have, yet you obviously want him to succeed.

Q: Do you have a formal annual budgeting process?

A: This is a truly impressive feature to a buyer. Even if you haven't performed to your budget, with proper variance explanations, nothing instills confidence like a well-thought out budget.

Q: Do you have bank references readily available?

A: If you have a positive cash flow and generated income from your surplus investments, your banker will say very nice things about you. If you've borrowed money to meet the occasional air report and repaid it promptly, your banker will also have nice things to say about you.

The key feature in all the criteria above is feedback. It's like driving a car - do you have full and properly calibrated instrumentation or are you driving with the dashboard painted over? I have seen agencies with outstanding "instrumentation" and I have seen others with even the wind shield painted over.

If all you know is that you're in the travel business but you're not really sure of any of the ratios or data above, how do you expect a buyer to make an assessment as to what he should pay for your business?

Your answers to these questions will help determine your agency's net worth - and its value in the marketplace. Travel business consultants such as Travel Business CPR will review and prepare your operation for sale on your behalf.

Safe Vacation Tips

Between burglars, car-jackers and terrorists, the carefree vacation seems like a thing of the past. There is no question that many dangers await the unwary traveler, both at home and abroad. In spite of the problems, there are precautions you can take to ensure that you will get the rest and relaxation you deserve on your vacation.

The first step is to secure your home. Leave a house key with a trusted friend or neighbor who can check on the house periodically. Let them know where you'll be and give them a cell-phone or hotel phone number where you can be reached in case of emergency. Cancel all deliveries such as newspapers, etc., and have a friend or neighbor pick up your mail and any circulars left by the door. Don't leave notes saying you've gone on vacation and never tell strangers that you are going away.

Check all doors and windows to make sure they're properly locked. Don't forget the garage and storage areas. Use clock timers to turn on lights, a radio, or the television, on and off at certain times each day, giving the outside impression that the home is occupied. Purchase timers that can alter the light patterns. Unplug all unnecessary appliances. Turn down the volume on your phones as constant ringing indicates an empty house. Drapes and shades should be left partly open so it looks like someone is home. Expensive jewelry and cash should be in a safe deposit box, and credit cards and checkbooks should be secured. Lawn furniture, barbecue grills, ladders, etc., should be locked away.

When traveling by car, keep your belongings locked in the trunk. Never leave luggage, cameras, and other valuables in open view, especially when the car is unattended. Keep all doors locked both when driving and at rest stops. When returning to a parked car check the back seat to assure no one is hiding there. Wherever possible, stay on well-lit, well-traveled roads. Be sure you know where you are going and have the necessary maps and directions so you don't find yourself lost in a bad area.

Upon arrival, place valuables in the hotel or motel safe if one is available. Do not flash large amounts of cash. Never leave cash, cameras, jewelry or other expensive items in your room unattended. Protect your room key and don't leave it anywhere. Always use the double lock and chain when you are in the room.

Traveling overseas requires extra attention to security. You should "sterilize" your luggage by removing all logos, stickers and claim checks that will identify you as an American. Limit your exposure time in airports by arriving with just enough time to check your bags and get through the metal detectors about ten minutes before boarding the plane. When traveling in any foreign country, maintain a low profile. Avoid large crowds and groups of tourists as they are considered easy targets by terrorists. Try to observe local customs with regard to dress, behavior, etc., and be a polite, considerate guest.

Different Kinds of Travel Luggage

Travel luggage is designed for professionals, sportsmen, men, women, kids and sometimes even animals. Luggage is created everywhere in the world so you will not encounter any problem finding the perfect bag to carry your belongings.

When buying luggage, try to find luggage that is durable, sturdy and resilient. It will also be good if it has reinforced edges and sides to help protect against hitting and being thrown when handled. When packing your clothes and items, create a checklist of all that you will need, as this will make the packing process even faster and if your bags get lost or misplaced, you will have a record of what is in inside the bag to use as your reference (though let's hope that will never happen). Waiting in line to check your bags in or getting your baggage lost is certainly an awful way to travel. Taking your luggage on the plane or in the airport at all times will bypass the hassle of it all, and best of all, you don't have to wait in line or pay the annoying check-in fees, which as of this writing average around USD 45 per bag.

When you choose a luggage, one smart task to do is to research the weight of the luggage because this will add to the weight allowance of the bag. A lot of people actually make the mistake of forgetting about the weight of their bags. What they don't realize is that the total weight allowable is the weight of the bag and the items in it! Good thing most luggage now are made with lightweight but durable materials. Most airlines have a weight threshold or a quantity threshold. It is a whole lot simpler to make use of wheeled luggage. A lot of frequent travelers will even agree with you that if you are going to travel and you need to bring all of your belongings with you- wheeled luggage are the way to go. It is much easier to transport carry on luggage with wheels than to carry it, especially if you're in a hurry.

There are also a lot of kinds of luggage tags circulating the marke right now Interestingly, luggage tags can even be as unique as you are. Luggage tags now are made of durable plastic that perfectly compliments your bags. When traveling, be sure to remove any old tags that are still on your luggage. Not following this tip can cause you because this can sometimes cause confusion in the airport. It is highly unlikely though, that your bags will end up in the wrong flight.- lets just hope that never happens. In order to possibly avoid the misplacement of your luggage be sure that any old flight information tags are removed. Better yet, as soon as you go to the airport, change all of your luggage tags.

There are quite a number of unique styles and types of luggage on the market - a few are computer bags, leather briefcases, carry-on cases, tote bags, garment bags, kids' luggage, garment carriers, duffel bags, backpacks and much much more. Among the luggage mentioned, leather bags are perhaps the heaviest because of the material it's made. Most high-quality brands of leather luggage posses a specific style and elegance to them. With leather baggage, the handles are often made of leather as well, which tends to be very comfortable on your hands especially in long distance flights which really wear you down.

Making use of a bright tag on your luggage will be your best hedge to easily locate your bags in the carousel. It will help you find your luggage quickly and easily when trying to retrieve it, and avoids the probability of it being stolen. Taking a small carry on bag is suitable for almost any form of travel. If you are going for a holiday, then you will need a bag that is big enough to carry all of your clothes and belongings, but still have enough room for the items that you will be carrying. The wheels will make it a lot less troublesome for you to stroll throughout the airport, the bus terminal, or even tram or train station. Some brands of luggage have wheels that make it easier to transport. Making use of carry on luggage with wheels is an instant time saver. It is essential for any traveler to be absolutely punctual; carry-on luggage with wheels are a lifesaver for this problem. You also do not need to worry about storing your carry-on luggages in the plane because flight attendants will be caring enough to assist you with your bags.

Included with these luggage are the comfort and relief that backpacks simply cannot offer. Any traveler who's shopped for backpacks knows that backpacks are necessary for school or for short day-trips.For international travel, it definitely is a big no.

International Travel Tips For a Wonderful Experience

Travelling is something which most of us look forward to. It is exciting but somehow can be quite taxing for some people if too many activities are squeezed into a short period of time. Travel is fun and exciting, but yet it can turn out to be a nightmare for someone newly travelling. Thus, it is very important for new travelers to seek good international travel tips from those with lots of travelling experiences.

Therefore it is crucial and indeed helpful if we can grab hold of useful International Travel Tips from multiple websites before the real travel.

Tabled below are some good international travel tips to be used as reference and guidelines:

i) If you are travelling to some developing countries, such as Vietnam, India, Cambodia, it would be good to get yourself some necessary vaccination or immunization at least 6 weeks before the travel. Some vaccine will take at least 6 weeks to reach its highest level of protection.

ii) Check out if there are any widely spread of diseases such as malaria, diarrhea in the country which you tend to travel to or any of its neighboring countries which you might want to avoid or be prepared for. Bring along some insect repellents if you are visiting some country side lakes or mountain resorts which might be disposed with mosquito or other types of insects.

iii) Check out the latest weather changes in your target destination. Call your travel agent and check if they are aware of any possible sign of Typhoon or earth-quake happening in these countries which might impact your travel later. It is always good to have backup plans ahead of time.

iv) Get necessary medical and dental checkup before your trip. Find out from your health insurance company if they will cover your claim if you visit a doctor in a foreign country if you are sick. Bring some regular medicine that you used to take with you, along with your prescription, best if you can bring along their original containers.

v) Eat and drink cautiously. Steam-hot, well cooked and bottled water from the hotel are usually safe to be consumed. Avoid street food, raw seafood and unpasteurized dairy products, and ice as they might not be safe for consumption.

vi) If you are concerned about your safety, check out the Embassy website and find out where is the embassy for your country in your travel destination if you really need to get help in emergency especially for your passport and medical assistance. Keep their address and contact handy all the time.

At the end of this article, I'd like to share cool websites with more tips on topics like international travel tips and how to use a lensatic compass. Visit for more information.

Traveling With Children - Important Tips For a Memorable Vacation

I was planning for a quiet summer vacation at the beach with my wife and daughter, but my wife's family wanted to take a trip to Italy to celebrate her father's 70th birthday. I had never traveled out of the country with my family and I assumed it would be nothing but headaches and hassle. I was intimidated enough traveling on my own or with my wife to foreign countries with all the unfamiliarity and strange customs, but traveling with children I thought would make the trip unpleasant and not the stress free vacation that I planned.

I was glad my wife convinced me to take the trip to Italy. I was pleasantly surprised that it went so smooth and best of all our daughter enjoyed herself nearly the entire time. My wife's parents planned the trip and they made accommodations for our daughter each step of the way which I believe helped greatly. The trip gave us some good ideas for traveling with our daughter in the future such as the following:

Lodging

I should go without saying, but planning ahead is always a good idea. Good accommodations for a young child will allow enough room for the child to spread out and not feel cramped or stressed. We chose to stay in an apartment rather than a hotel not only for the larger rooms but also so we could prepare our own meals and have our morning coffee in our room. Also consider if you will have your own car and, if not, try to stay close to public transportation. Look for a playground nearby or plan activities that your child will enjoy during downtime. Children are quick to get restless when adults get tired.

How much time to stay

Space out your trip to avoid a hectic pace. In our second week, we went to Florence, Venice, then Rome which was too much travel for us compared to the first week. We should have left with my wife's parents before the second week. Choose a city with a slow pace and a good atmosphere for children by talking to people who have been there. Venice was cool enough and not too hot in May. The people were relaxed and easy going. However, Florence was too loud and too hot and it was difficult to feel safe with all those Vespa's racing around.

What to bring

Don't bring too much. Before I pack, I take out everything I believe I will need, then I put away half. A backpack or roll-up pack is great for being on the go and chasing after a little one. I try not to take too many clothes for my daughter since she can wear the same outfit multiple days, but I wanted a few extra clothes in case of dribbles during meals or a few falling down accidents. I didn't want her to look homely without clean clothes after a mishap. Remember sun screen for babies over 6 months, a hat for shade and some warm clothes even if the weather is warm most of the time.

A backpack or carrier for our daughter would have been good if we were hiking, but the stroller we had with an umbrella was great for our trip. We rolled it up to to the gate where where it easily folded and was stowed by the flight attendant. The attendant then unfolded it for us when we arrived so that we could push the stroller when we left the plane.

Be sure to take some of your child's favorite toys, but try not to over do it. Our daughter can think of most anything as a toy. We brought a few of her favorite things, but she spent much of the time playing in our suitcases with our clothes.

A trip well worth the expense

We have many great pictures and great memories of our trip. It was our best vacation as a family. We met a woman in Venice who said that she remembers a trip to Venice with her parents when she was a girl and the trip helped to develop her outlook. I hope our daughter will look back through the pictures years from now with good thoughts and memories.

Are You Overpaying by Using a Travel Agent?

Generally in life, if we want a job doing well, we call in a professional. If there is a leak, we call a plumber and if the car stops, we call a mechanic. However, the current trend has been to cut out the professionally trained and qualified travel agent, and to do the job ourselves. It is true that with the huge amount of information available on the internet, and a host of booking websites offering discounts, almost anyone can book a hotel, flight or vacation, but do they really get the best deal?

An experienced travel professional has unrivaled experience in the world of travel, working 40 hours a week for many years. A professional travel agent or broker will have access to a huge choice of services from contracted suppliers and can see the whole picture, not just choosing the first option that ticks all the boxes. For example, an agent may see that a flight is a few dollars more, but saves you hours of travelling time. They can view all the possible connections and combinations and can spend time trawling through the options with their sophisticated Travel Agent's Reservations System, as that is their job.

The current reluctance to use a travel agent stems from the belief that we are saving money if we book ourselves. However, you the customer are not being charged a penny by the travel agent. They do not add a fee to your booking. Instead, companies make their hotels, flights etc. available to brokers at preferential rates, as travel agents generally are going to be much better clients than individuals to deal with. It is the suppliers who pay the brokers a commission for their business, not the customer.

The advantages of using a travel agent are many. Their sophisticated browsers and software can sift through thousands of combinations and fares. They do not just throw up the cheapest fares but they also look for the best schedules for you. In the International arena, travel agents still provide the most business to airlines and consequently have the best inventory and prices from them. Agents can also watch potential bookings on your behalf and monitor the sales of a particular flight to get you the very best deal using their professional knowledge of the industry. Furthermore, international flights offer a mind-blowing number of possibilities, with a huge combination of airlines and flight connections which a home-based computer and a small booking company cannot possibly hope to compete with.

The key to getting the most from your travel agent is to build up a rapport as a long-standing customer with them. That way, you can request perks such as free parking in hotels, cabin upgrades and maybe an additional hotel night free. You will be the first to be notified of special deals. In the end, these perks are worth cash in your pocket and are hidden benefits which, although not immediately apparent, do save you money.

Choosing the right travel agent is part of this process. Look for an agency registered in the state you live in. Ask if they are members of international travel organizations such as IATA (International Air Transport Association), ARC (Airline Reporting Corporation) or ASTA (American Society of Travel Agents). Make sure they are bonded and insured so that your booking is guaranteed should an airline cease trading. It is much easier to get recompense through a travel agent, than if you have made the booking yourself through an unknown internet booking company who has no position of strength for negotiating recompense. In the current economic climate, when even the largest companies are struggling, it makes sense to use a professional. Should problems arise travel agents are worth their weight in gold as they do the job they are trained and specialized in.

Sun Holidays and Sunshine Breaks - Demand Your Money Back If it Rains

The Times, reports from data collected by Expedia, that foreign travel searches have increased compared to the same time last year - going against what many were predicting during these recessionary times. One of the biggest movers, Spain's east coast - Costa Dorada, saw an increase of 119 percent as the UK succumbed to more rain. Yet, it also seems that if we are eager to travel then we might as well go the distance - with interest in holidays in Hawaii being up 90 percent too.

With this sudden interest in famously hot holiday destinations, some holiday providers eager to compete in the increasingly tough recession-hit industry are offering your well earned money back should the sun fail to shine - ensuring that we get what we pay for on our sun holidays. The scheme has been implemented by insurance company Aon France, who state that if anyone can prove that it rained over at least four days of their holiday, they will receive a significant refund (according to mailonline.co.uk).

Additionally, the company are also offering smaller refunds should the weather simply not live up to expectations. Aon use satellite photos from France's weather centre, and then calculate the likelihood of bad weather in relation to how much money they offer to pay back should it rain.

Nice Tourist Office have supported the idea, stating: 'If a destination is offering itself as a place for a sunshine break, then there is probably no reason why someone should not pay up if it rains every day. The policy sounds like an excellent idea.' And others in Britain have suggested that a similar scheme may be made available here - though I'm finding it very difficult to recall ever hearing of an advertised "Drizzle Break"!

Travel Nurse Jobs

With the lack of nurses in the United States and Canada, hiring has actually extended to the international scene. There are hospitals and companies that have started recruiting from the Philippines, South Africa, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India and others.

If you are from one of these countries and are interested in working in the US or Canada as a traveling nurse, there are certain credentials that you will have to meet. You have to be a graduate from a 3-year general nursing accredited university. You must have basic background in adult clinical medicine, adult clinical surgery, pediatrics, midwifery and psychiatric care. You should also possess a nursing license in your home country, and you must qualify for a US Visa without any criminal records. In addition, you need to pass three exams: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), with a 540 score or higher; Test of Spoken English (TSE), with a 50 score or higher and Test of Written English (TWE), with a 4.0 score or higher. If you originate from Australia, Canada (with the exception of Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, it is no longer necessary for you to take the English-related exams.

Traveling nurses are paid higher than the usual nursing staffs, especially if you come from a third world country. The benefits for you are exponentially higher than those you would get from your own country. Aside from the financial benefits, you usually receive a comprehensive health, life, dental and vision insurance, housing benefits and other amenities. All your official trips can be reimbursed. You can also take advantage of continued education allowances and retirement plans. Joining the pool of traveling nurses opens you up to a whole lot of job opportunities.

Pathological Condition - Acute Myocardial Infarction

Acute Myocardial Infarction (MI) can be defined as condition in which, there is death or necrosis of myocardial cells. It is generally diagnosed at the end of the ambit of myocardial ischemia or acute coronary condition. Myocardial infarction occurs once myocardial ischemia oversteps a critical threshold and overcomes myocardial cellular repairing mechanism that is contrived for maintaining normal operating function and hemostasis. Ischemia at such critical threshold level for quite a longer period ends up in irreversible myocardial cell damage or in worst cases, even its death.

Classical symptoms of acute MI include fulminant chest pain (a typical radiating pain that travels from the left arm or left side of the neck to the heart), dyspnea (shortness of breath), nausea and/or vomiting, palpitation, profuse perspiration and anxiety (often called as sense of impending doom). Statistics say that women might experience less typical symptoms as compared to that of the men, most commonly dyspnea, weakness, gastrointestinal disturbance, and tiredness. Roughly, about one quarter of all myocardial infarctions are silent i.e. they do not show any chest pain or other signs.

Most of the cases of myocardial infarction are caused due to a commotion in the vascular endothelium that is linked with unstable atherosclerotic plaques those stimulate the formation of an intracoronary thrombus that ultimately ends up in coronary artery blood flow block. If such blockage persists for longer duration (approximately 20 to 40 min) there will be irreversible myocardial cell damage and cell death. The development of atherosclerotic plaques occurs over a period of years and even to the decades. However, the reason for initial vascular lesion that leads to the development of atherosclerotic plaques is still illusive.

Generally, it is high level of cholesterols in the bloodstream that restrict the blood flow to the cardiac tissues. Excessive body fats, high cholesterol and/or lipid profiles can be few of the main culprits for myocardial infarction. The blood vessels are nothing but the hollow pipe or tube-like cylindrical structure that allows the blood to flow flawlessly. High cholesterol levels start accumulating onto the walls of blood vessels and this, in turn, results in narrowing of the blood vessels. The blood supply is reduced and over the times, it could be cut-off for a while (ischemic conditions, where there is transient loss of blood supply). When the affected organ is heart, it is ischemic heart attack.

The damage

The severity of myocardial infarction is dependent on three main factors: the degree of the occlusion in the coronary arteries, the tenure of time of occlusions, and the presence or absence of circulation of the collateral blood. Usually, if there is more proximal the coronary occlusion, there will be more extensive chances of myocardium at risks of necrosis. Simply putting, larger the myocardial infarction, greater is the chance of death because of mechanical complications or pumping failure. If vessel occlusion is for prolonged period, there are more chances of permanent myocardial damage distal to that occlusion.

As the continuance of the occlusion will increase, the area of myocardial cell death will expand that finally extends from the endocardium to the myocardium (middle layer) and finally to the epicardium (innermost layer). The area of myocardial cell death will then spread laterally to area of watersheds or collateral perfusion and usually, after 6-8 hours have passed of coronary occlusion, most of the distal myocardium would have died. The magnitude of myocardial cell death reflects the extent of the myocardial infarction. If blood flow is successfully restored before the major damage to the myocardium, more heart muscle can be saved from the permanent damage or death and the life can be saved.

Travel Sickness and How to Deal With It

For those of us that get sick when abroad, it is just typical! You have all year round to be sick and then the one week that you are away from your mundane and boring life you can guarantee that the bugs will bite! There are plenty of common ailments that can strike whilst you are elsewhere, and perhaps travel sickness is the first you have to contend with. Travel sickness can weaken the body and leave you more susceptible to illness. However, because you only get one chance to go away, it is essential that you cope with travel sickness as and when it happens rather than waiting.

Believe it or not, travel sickness actually happens to between 60% and 80% of the world's population at one time or another. Fortunately for those individuals that fly, it happens to most people while travelling in a car, but that is not to say that travel sickness does not apply on a plane! It does. If you start to feel dizzy or sick whilst flying then you are almost certainly experiencing travel sickness. There are things that you can do to prepare yourself in an attempt to avoid travel sickness in advance though:

• Avoid eating heavy, greasy, salty and spicy foods before you go. These will just serve to saturate and unsettle the stomach.
• Avoid drinking the night before flying to ensure that you are in good health when you take off! Getting drunk the night before may be a great way to see you off, but not if it makes you ill on the plane!
• Take some time to relax because anxiety can increase the problem. Your nerves can quite easily cause breathing problems, which could then lead to vomiting so make sure that you take your time and breathe!
• When you are flying and feel as though you are going to be ill, do not read or look downwards in any way because this will serve to disorientate you. However, you should keep moving so take a walk up the aisle every now and again.
• Drink plenty of water. This will keep sickness at bay somewhat because you are replacing the fluid that you are sweating and perhaps vomiting out. Water will also avoid unsettling your stomach, but carbonated drinks and acidic drinks like juices will upset the balance.

If you do happen to experience travel sickness or other illness when abroad, natural cures such as peppermint and ginger root can help you to fight nausea and calm your stomach. There are also some anti-sickness pills that may prove to be effective that you can purchase from a pharmacy. However, you should always drink plenty of water to re-hydrate your body and visit a doctor if symptoms do not abate for upwards of 24 hours.

Common Male Yeast Infection Symptoms Simple Home Test and Cures

The primary symptom that all the men experience is with the digestive problems and all other comes under the same symptom. The symptoms of male yeast infection include bad breath, constipation, bloating, frequent intestinal gas, indigestion, frequent diarrhea, sexual dysfunction, mood swings and irritability, lack of energy or fatigue, memory loss, flaky dry itchy skin, jock itch, athlete feet and problems related to the prostate.

Most of the folks develop a habit of having pastas, sweets, and chips etc, all these food items contribute to these male yeast infections and quite likely you will feed it until you notice the infections to a greater extent. The simple test to check out whether you have the male yeast infection is to spit two times in a glass of water as soon as you wake up in the early morning, even before you get out of the bed. Check out the glass after 15 minutes and see whether your spit dissolved and disappeared into the water. If the spit dissolves and disappears in water it indicates that you are not infected.

However, if the spit in the glass becomes cloudy, sinks to bottom, with strings, appearing like web of the spider, it indicates that you are affected with yeast infections. After 30 minutes, if there is residue in the bottom of the vessel it indicates that you are affected with parasites and it is necessary to start the treatment at the earliest. In some cases, you can predict in first five minutes of time.

In order to cure the male yeast infection, the following things must to be followed. Firstly sugar intake has to be controlled, and then you must avoid consumptions of yeast foods, soy foods, dairy, tuna, shellfish, swordfish, fructose, aspartame, trans-fats and splenda, so as to cure yeast infections, or otherwise to prevent them. Eating more white meat and vegetables is preferable than pork and beef. You should also drink more water daily, which is free from fluorides and chlorine. Ensure that the food you take should contain more vegetables and have white meat instead of going for beef and pork type of meats.

As a matter of fact, simply drinking more water daily can cure male yeast infection in a while too, but you must ensure that you drink pure and chlorine free water. Vinegar is the best natural cure of all yeast and fungal infections.

You can find more ways to detect male yeast infection symptoms effectively, and also find all forms of yeast infection cures in my upcoming series of articles.

Health Drinks May Not Be So Healthy After All

Health living is now a popular trend and thus emerged many companies offering health products and services. According to experts, taking vitamins and mineral supplements in liquid form can be quite effective in achieving optimum health. This is because in this liquid form, the body can absorb the nutrients it needs easily. This is the reason why health drinks are so popular today, that many companies come up with health drinks in liquid form such as those in juices while others come up with powder form which can be mixed with water, to be consumed.

However, many so-called "healthy drinks," may not be as good as they claimed to be. Some health drinks, for example, energy drinks are high in sugar content and caffeine. Consuming too much energy drinks can lead to heart palpitations, anxiety, insomnia and irritability. Juice drinks are usually high in sugar content and regular consumption of it will lead to an increase in your waistline as well as the risk of getting diabetes.

So for those who are into healthy drinks, it is time to learn how to determine which are the ones that can help you achieve optimum health and which ones do not. When shopping for health drinks, be sure to check the labels and avoid those which have the following ingredients:

  • artificial flavors and sweeteners. Artificial flavors are commonly found in colas, sweet juices and candy bars and also in most health drinks that are flavored-based. These artificial flavors and sweeteners can cause pH imbalances in the blood.
  • high fructose corn syrup. This is the major cause of weight gain as it is a concentrated sugar. Excessive consumption can lead to abnormal blood sugar levels that may eventually cause diabetes.
  • processed vitamins. These vitamins have been heated, liquefied and isolated and thus they have been broken down and the the body will not benefit from them.
  • phosphoric acid. This acid is usually found in detergents, fertilizers and other pharmaceuticals products. Consumption of this acid can lead to the irritation of the skin and eyes.
  • artificial coloring such as the yellow 6, yellow 5 and red 40.
  • modified food starch.

No doubt that ready-made commercial health drinks are convenient especially for the busy working people, nothing beats making your own health drink. All you need is a juicer, ice, plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and you can get fresh, natural health drinks everyday.

The Benefits of Manuka Honey

Manuka honey is produced from the flower of the manuka bush which grows in New Zealand and parts of Australia. Scientific studies have shown that it is extremely effective in treating a variety of health conditions because it has a variety of powerful properties. It is effective in destroying bacteria, virus, fungus and other microbes.

Manuka honey is also an antioxidant, which means it contains an extra molecule that can attach to another molecule and prevent or slow down oxidation which is damaging to the cells. This honey can also reduce infection because of its anti-septic qualities, and reduces pain caused by swelling and inflammation.

Manuka honey, which can be taken orally, can eliminate or lessen a wide variety of health conditions such as stomach aches, stomach ulcers, strep throat, sore throat, acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, gastritis, and even common cold symptoms. It can be given to young children, but not to babies under the age of 18 months.

Another A that manuka honey has been shown to be useful in treating is anti-wrinkle. The addition of manuka honey to an anti-wrinkle serum aids the production of collagen fibers to strengthen the skin and improve elasticity. It also regenerates new cells, rejuvenates the skin, and gives you a younger, healthier glow.

Because manuka is able to absorb impurities and kill bacteria in the pores of the skin, it is an ideal treatment for acne and other similar skin conditions, such as rosacea, dermatitis, eczema, and psoriasis. Plus it helps to fade skin redness and eliminate pain caused by these conditions.

Fungal infections such as athlete's foot, ringworm, jock itch, nail fungus can be treated by manuka honey because of its powerful anti-fungal properties. Because of its ability to penetrate the surface of the skin, makes it possible for the cream to reach the areas where its anti-inflammatory action can do more to relieve the pain.

Manuka honey is a potent addition to first aid lotions and hand-sanitizing gels. It helps prevent scarring, helps destroy anti-biotic-resistance bacteria, and moisturizes the skin. It has also been shown to be effective in treating MRSA and other staph infections.

I think you'll agree that a study of manuka honey is definitely worth your time.

Bleeding Hemorrhoids - How to Stop the Bleeding

There are many factors that cause bleeding hemorrhoids like having weak rectal vein walls and valves, constipation, pregnancy, low-fiber diet, irregular bowel movement, prolonged sitting or standing, and anal sex. Bleeding hemorrhoids are painful, irritating, and the whole bloody experience can make one nauseated and disgusted. Is there a way to stop the bleeding? Here are some tested and proven remedies that can help you cope with bleeding hemorrhoids:

Eat fiber-rich food

Usually, the kind of food one eats is a major cause of bleeding hemorrhoids as well as other diseases. Having a high-fiber diet with lots of fruits and vegetables can help improve digestion and produce soft bowels which are easy to eliminate. In addition, you get the nutrients your body needs to heal itself naturally and prevent hemorrhoids from worsening. Avoid too much sugar, spices, caffeine, and salt in your diet.

Drink plenty of fluids

Drinking six to eight glasses of water a day can do wonders to your body and in relieving yourself from bleeding hemorrhoids. You can also substitute water with fresh fruit and vegetable juices to keep the digestive process flow naturally. However, you must avoid caffeinated drinks like coffee and soda as well as alcoholic drinks that can make your body acidic.

Keep your body moving

Exercise is another excellent method that can help you cope with bleeding hemorrhoids. Take a walk early in the morning or after office hours. If you are at work, stand every now and then and walk a bit to relax your bottom. Regular exercise can speed up metabolism and keep your digestive system from working efficiently.

Go when you need to go

Never postpone your bowel movement or stop yourself from defecating when the need arises. Eliminate your wastes regularly to avoid fecal matter to remain in the large intestine. Otherwise, stool will become drier and harder and you have to strain to get it out. Avoid exerting too much pressure in the blood vessels and veins in the anal and rectal regions by defecating when needed.

Keep your anus clean and dry

In order to stop bleeding hemorrhoids, you must keep your anus clean and dry. Simply use plain water or natural cleansing products in cleaning your bottom especially after defecating. Avoid using soap as much as possible since it can irritate the skin. After which, pat it dry with a clean towel and sprinkle with baby powder or cornstarch to absorb moisture. Do not scratch or rub too hard since this can only worsen hemorrhoids instead of healing them.

Bleeding hemorrhoids are a serious health condition that needs to be treated immediately. Learn how to cope with bleeding hemorrhoids by eating fiber-rich food, drinking plenty of fluids, exercising, defecating regularly, and keeping your anus clean. Protect yourself from hemorrhoids and have a healthier body.

What Leads to Urinary Tract Infection?

The human body releases several waste products like sweat, stool and urine. The sweat is eliminated from the body through the pores on the skin, while stool is released during the bowel movements. Similarly, the urinary tract and kidney play a very important role in the excretion of urine from the body. The urine consists of metabolic byproducts like salts, toxins and water that is removed from the body through urinary secretion.

The urinary tract system consists of kidney, uterus, urethra and urinary bladder. The main function of the kidney is to control the concentration of essential nutrients in the blood. Hence, any damage to the kidneys can increase the proportion of nutrients to uncontrollable level. Kidneys are also responsible for maintaining the water balance inside the body, so that every body tissue gets ample water for its sound growth and functionality.

Once, the kidneys filter the waste, the urine enters the urinary bladder and exits through the urethra during the urinary excretion. However, sometimes the urinary tract gets infected due to attack of Ecoli bacteria on the urinary system. Initially, the bacterium resides near the anus but moves towards the uterus due to improper cleaning during the bowel movements.

Eventually, the bacterium enters the urinary bladder and sticks to the bladder walls. Thus, the bug multiplies itself and attacks the bladder walls leading to bladder infection. Later on, the urinary infection is accompanied by several urinary problems like blood or pus in urine, frequent urge to urinate, pain during urinary secretion etc. Hence, the condition can become worse and infect the kidneys in long run leading to kidney damage.

Hence, if you are suffering from urinary tract infection, then you must consult a doctor immediately. You can also consume D-mannose, a natural sugar solution that detaches the Ecoli bacteria from the bladder walls and evacuates the bug from the urinary bladder. Thus, the infection will be cleaned within few days and resume normal functioning of the urinary system.

Plan Your Vacation Using the Advice of Friends

How do you plan your vacation? Do you run around like a blind man, trust a travel agent, read up or do you use friends? If you have friends that travel this might be the best option. But even if you do not have, there are other friends that might help.

Ask Advice
Before you go and spend money on a destination you have never visited, ask around. Friends and colleagues like to talk about a place they have seen. They will give you inside information. This can be advice you can use to decide if you go or not. There is hardly a better substitute for a recommendation from a friend. They know your taste, circumstances and often your budget.

Where to get these friends
The bad part is that you do not always have such friends. Then what can you do about that? The good part is there is a friend you can trust. They do not know your budget so they give you different options. They do not know what you are interested in so they give you the advice of people that have been there. The friends I talk about are the different travel books on the market.

Travel books
An example might be Fodor's book on Moscow and St. Petersburg. This friend will go with you and it will help you all the way. It will steer you away from wrong turns and wrong choices. And it will never expect a thing in return.

Good Advice
The advice you get is good because the source is good. In order to put a book like that together they rely on other people to tell them how they experienced the different places. They usually mention the best places and things to see. This will save you time and money. You will not chase around a city looking for something interesting. You can pick what you like and go there straight away.

Writers
All these books use people that have travelled. These people know how to describe things and to be objective. They also have the ability to get more information than you might be able to do. And certainly in less time.

Why use Travel Books
Using these books make it possible for you to enjoy your vacation or trip without having to figure out what is interesting. Reading the books in advance will give you an edge and many times when you visit a place you can actually give the drivers directions of where to find the place instead of the other way around.

Lastly remember that if you discover an exceptional place, bring it under the attention of the publisher who might include it in the next edition of the book.

Dream up wild destinations and find a book about the place. Dare to discover and never stop dreaming. You have friends that have been there before. Just imagine what the Lonely Planet, Fodor's would have meant to Moses, Shackleton or Scott. Just imagine what happened to them and do not let it happen to you.

That's Entertainment - A Guide to Keeping Kids Happy on Long Journeys

Tips on making that long holiday drive simply fly by:

Are we nearly there yet? How much further? Heading off on holiday with the kids shouldn't be something you dread. They want to get there as much as you, they just need a bit more entertainment along the way.

It is not easy to travel with restless youngsters. So we've come up with a few child-friendly gadgets to guarantee a smooth ride for a stress-free holiday.

The young ones

Books, CDs and cuddly toys will keep babies and toddlers occupied between sleeps, but sometimes you just need to have that extra item up your sleeve.

One such gadget is the Learn and Go Baby Driver (6-24 months). Turn the ignition key, spin the wheel or beep the horn and your little ones will love driving along with you. What's more, they can learn the alphabet and their colours at the same time.

Another friendly face, who'll make the journey easier for youngsters, is the brightly coloured Charlie Caterpillar. He helps children learn their ABC and once you've reached your destination, can be fastened onto the pram or pushchair with his Velcro straps.

Little angels

A car journey isn't complete without a traditional game of "I spy". But there are only so many red cars, newborn lambs, lamp posts or tractors you can spot. So where do you turn when the novelty wears off? In this technological day and age, you're spoilt for choice.

The LeapFrog Leapster 2 is the first pre-school, handheld games console, which gives four to eight-year-olds a fun, safe and secure on-line learning experience.

Alternatively, turn game time into brain time with the V.Smile Cyber Pocket. The portable educational gaming system is perfect for five to nine year olds.

Teenage kicks

For moody teens, who don't have their driver's licence but secretly enjoy family holidays away, the PocketSurfer 2R will ensure they stay in communication.

Wave goodbye to wi-fi hotspots, this portable internet device runs on GPRS and can be used wherever there's a mobile phone signal. It's pricey, but comes with 20 hours a month free usage.

It means they can surf the net or keep in touch with friends via bebo, Facebook or msn. It may also come in handy if you're slightly lost and need a map!

Family fun

Any gadget that can amuse all members of your family has got to be good. And Myvu video glasses, aimed at ages 10 and over, give children - and their parents - a hands free, large screen viewing experience, like having your very own Imax cinema!

Game on

Once the car's kitted out as a child-friendly zone, make sure your car insurance covers any expensive gadgets (if they aren't covered by your car policy, you may be able to upgrade your home insurance to cover them). And when you stop for the inevitable refreshments, try not to leave them visible. Keep thieves at bay by removing temptation.

When travelling anywhere on long journeys, it's also important your car's in good condition. If in doubt, make sure you have breakdown insurance. It could save a lot of time, money and temper tantrums!

A Brief Look at UP, India's Most Famous State

The land of monumental magnificence and picturesque splendor, UP (Uttar Pradesh) is one of the largest states of India. It is located in the northern part of the country, in the heart of the Indian cow belt. Apart from being one of the largest states of India--in terms of geographical size--UP is also the most populated Indian state even after the carving out of the new state of Uttarakhand a few years ago.

Several rivers--such as the Ganges, Gomti, Betwa, Sarayu, Rihand, and Yamuna-- flow through UP making the state one of the most fertile states of India. UP's contributions to Indian politics, culture, tourism, agriculture, education, and economy is phenomenal. For instance, most of the prime ministers of the country, including the first prime minister of India Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, is from UP, and so is the biggest Superstar of Bollywood--the one and only Amitabh Bachchan.

Some key cities of UP

Lucknow, the City of the Nawabs, is the state capital and a major cultural and administrative hub. The rich and varied culture of Lucknow has impressed people since long. Its cuisine is also worth mentioning. Some food experts believe that the highly tempting Mughali food loved by people across the world, originated in UP. Lucknow was also an important centre of freedom movement.

Allahabad is another famous city of UP. A key educational hub, Allahabad is also much famed for the Sangam where the Maha Kumbh Mela is held every 12 years which attracts lakhs of religiously and spiritually inclined people from all over the world. Varanasi--yet another famous city of the state--is located by the Ganges. It is the spiritual and religious capital of India. Believed to be situated atop Lord Shiva's trident, Varanasi, also called Benaras and Kasi, is also decisively the most ancient continuously inhabited city of the world.

The Manchester of India, Kanpur is another well-known city of UP, and a major industrial hub of the region. Aligarh, yet another famous city of UP, is well-known for the premier Aligarh Muslim University and also the quality Aligarh Locks widely used throughout India.
